Help us beta test Guitar Trainer HD 4.0

The next major version of our Guitar Trainer HD app will include some exciting new features, and we'll be ready to go in a limited beta release in the coming weeks.

The biggest addition will be the inclusion of a music staff in the app, which will allow you to learn musical notation at the same time as the fretboard. We will need volunteers to test this new feature on all the available instruments to make sure it works properly before we release it to the public.

We will be using the free TestFlight service to conduct this beta test. If you own an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch), you can register for free by following this link :

What we're looking for in beta testers :

  • Have at least one iOS device that can run the current version of Guitar Trainer HD or HDx.
  • Willing to test the new features and submit feedback and bug reports.
  • Apprentice musician with an interest in improving their knowledge of one of our included instruments: guitar, bass, ukulele, mandolin and banjo.
  • Please be able to communicate in English though the app itself will be available in many languages.

Guitar Trainer 1.2 for Java ME and Blackberry

The original Guitar Trainer app for Java ME and BlackBerry has just been updated to version 1.2.

The main changes in this release are a full Chinese localization (both traditional and simplified), as well as some other cosmetic changes to bring the app more in line with Guitar Trainer HD for iOS.

This app is still widely in use around the world and is available for purchase straight from our website at MobileTutor.org, or at a variety of App Stores, including the BlackBerry App World store.

You may also want to check out the free demo version if you haven't already.

We are continually expanding the international reach of our apps with new updates. More languages are coming soon to Guitar Trainer HD for iOS, please stay tuned !

Guitar Trainer HD v3.0 is now available

We are proud to announce the release of version 3.0 of Guitar Trainer HD and Guitar Trainer HDx, the first universal version of these educational apps for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

While previous versions worked fine on iPad, they were not native to this tablet. Version 3.0 now brings it to scale with a full iPad interface tailored to the bigger screen.

This new version of Guitar Trainer HD also includes a number of bug fixes for the iPhone side of things, and sports a new look.

The app is a completely free update for existing users, and pricing is not changing either, so if you haven't yet had a chance to try Guitar Trainer HD out, now is the time!

We are proud to announce the availability on the iTunes App Store of Guitar Trainer HDx, a free version of our popular Guitar Trainer HD app.

The features included in HDx are identical to the ones included in the HD version. Both versions of the app will be updated in parallel, as new features are added, including full universal iPad support coming later this month.

The main difference between the HD and HDx versions of Guitar Trainer is the pricing model. The new HDx version includes limited versions of all instruments, which allows you to try before you buy. Each instrument can be unlocked via in-app purchase, either individually or as a discounted bundle. Individual instruments however are priced higher than in the HD version.

This new pricing model is especially advantageous if the instrument you intend to practice is not the 6-string guitar, which is the only full instrument included with Guitar Trainer HD. Now you can get the app itself for free and unlock only the instruments you need.

Here are the instruments included in both the HD and HDx versions of Guitar Trainer :
  • 6-string guitar (full version included as part of Guitar Trainer HD)
  • 7-string guitar
  • 4-string bass
  • 5-string bass
  • 6-string bass
